Arsenal vs. Manchester United. Tips, Odds and Predictions, 03.09.2023

Arsenal vs Manchester United is always one of the most highly anticipated clashes of the season. Some of you will remember Keane vs. Viera and Wenger against Ferguson, but this year sees Ten Hag and Arteta lock horns.

There is always a sense of nostalgia when these two teams face each other, and the fans are hopeful of reigniting the intense rivalry that was once the highlight of English football during the early 2000s. Since the Premier League era began, these two clubs have always been at the heart of the drama, which will likely continue this year.

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season, just ahead of Manchester United in third, and were the league leaders for most of the season, only for the title to slip away from them. On the other hand, Manchester United started the Ten Hag era well, and despite some underwhelming performances, they managed to win the Carabao Cup.

Despite their strong finishes, both clubs know that they need to continuously improve themselves as they go ahead, as this is the expectation that comes with their stature. Both managers are showing promise, and this match will be a crucial assessment of their tactical abilities against each other.

In a league as competitive as the Premier League, where every point counts, a meeting at the start of the season will set the tone for the winning team. A win against one of your biggest rivals will boost confidence, potentially setting the foundation for a successful season for either team.

Arsenal vs. Manchester United Tips

After analysing the recent performances of both Arsenal and Manchester United, it is clear that both teams have their share of defensive vulnerabilities but showcase an attacking threat. Arsenal have scored in their last 26 out of 28 games, while Manchester United have scored in their last 13 out of 15 games as well.

Both teams have scored in 9 of the 11 previous encounters at the Emirates, and given these statistics, it is likely that we will see an action-packed game with goals being scored at both ends of the field. Gabriel Jesus is one to watch as he might make his first start this season after injury, and he will be hungry to prove himself and start off his season on a high.

Arsenal vs Manchester United Analysis

Manchester United have two wins from their first three games, but this does not paint the whole picture. Despite winning on the opening day against Wolves, they were clearly outplayed and had some decisions go in their favour. A positive first half versus Spurs was followed by a poor second half that saw them concede two goals and ultimately lose that game. United were also two down in four minutes versus Nottingham Forest until their midfielders scored three goals and rallied them to a win. Despite making a comeback against Forest, there are some clear warning signs, and with recent injuries, it is unlikely that Manchester United will be the dominant force in this tie.

On the other hand, Arsenal have had a better start to their season, with two wins and a draw so far. They will be disappointed that it is not three wins from three as they had a man advantage against Fulham and still conceded late on at home, but they were clearly the commanding side in that game. Considering the form the Gunners are carrying in from last season, they appear to be the more solid team and are more likely to come out on top in this encounter.

Arsenal vs. Manchester United Predictions

With Manchester United’s recent struggles and injuries to key players like Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane, Arsenal seem to have the advantage. Manchester United have failed to keep a clean sheet in 7 of their last eight games with these players anyway, and considering they are playing away from home, it is very unlikely they will see one at The Emirates.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli’s pace, combined with Martin Odegaard’s creativity, will be key for Arsenal’s offensive threat. Arsenal also have a strong defensive line with players like Thomas Partey, Declan Rice, and William Saliba, who will help them neutralise Manchester United’s attack. Considering all these factors, we predict a 3-1 victory for Arsenal.

Arsenal Team News

Eddie Nketiah, Arsenal’s backup striker who scored for them in their last game versus Fulham, is rumoured to have picked up a knee injury and could miss the game against United. Nketiah is an important player for Arteta, but with the return of Gabriel Jesus, it is unlikely that the Gunners will be at a major disadvantage.

Arsenal’s new signing Jurrien Timber, who has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee, is out with a long-term injury, and with recent news circulating across social media, it is unlikely that he will play again this season. Long-serving player Mohamed Elneny underwent knee surgery last season and is also sidelined for a long period.

Manchester United Team News

Manchester United are having a tougher time than Arsenal, as many of their key players have picked up injuries recently. Luke Shaw is dealing with a muscle issue which is expected to keep him out for at least a few weeks. United’s new signing Mason Mount is also expected to be out till October with a thigh problem. Matchweek 1’s game-winner Raphael Varane has also picked up a recent injury which has raised further concerns for Manchester United fans.

Amad Diallo and Tyrell Malacia are both out with knee injuries and are not expected to return soon. £72 million signing Rasmus Winther Hojlund is progressing well with his back problem but has not joined full training yet. Lastly, Tom Heaton, a player Manchester United first signed in 2002, is also under assessment, grappling with a calf strain and won’t be featuring in the game versus Arsenal.
